Sault Ste. Marie (pronounced Soo Saint Marie and founded in 1668), is a friendly town of almost 15,000 residents located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.  The city shares the international border with Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. The two cities combine the advantages of a larger city with the safety and comfort of a smaller town. Between both, the population is about 100,000.  The town is especially exciting for water enthusiasts.  Residents can sail, motor, row, kayak or paddle during most of the year on their choice of lakes, rivers and their neighboring freshwater seas, the Great Lakes.  Sault Ste. Marie is home to Lake Superior State University, a personal, small-town public university that provides a superior blend of liberal and technical studies in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
